Log Overtime

Only the premium — the extra half of time-and-a-half — counts toward the deduction. Overtime Tracker adds up that half for you.

Tax-Time Summary

🧾 Bring this summary — and your pay stubs — to your tax professional. For 2025–2028 you claim the overtime premium deduction on your own tax return, and your employer's W-2 or pay stub may not separate the premium out. Your own dated log is your backup.

🔍 Pay Stub Check

Your pay stub or W-2 may show an overtime premium total. Type it in here and Overtime Tracker compares it with your own log for the same period — so you can spot a gap before tax time.

Small differences are common and usually have an innocent reason — pay-period cut-off dates, a stub that covers different weeks than the dates you pick here, or a job change partway through the year. This check never accuses anyone of anything. If the difference is big, ask payroll — bring this log.

How the Overtime Deduction Works

Plain-language summary of the federal "no tax on overtime" deduction (Internal Revenue Code §225). This is an estimate aid, not tax advice. Rules can be interpreted differently for your situation — confirm with a tax professional or the IRS instructions for your tax year.

What is it?

For tax years 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 only, US workers can deduct the premium portion of qualified overtime pay — the extra amount your employer is required to pay above your regular rate for overtime hours under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Only the "half" counts

Overtime is usually paid at time-and-a-half (1.5× your regular rate). The regular 1× part is not deductible. Only the extra 0.5× — the "half" — is the deductible premium.

Example: Your regular rate is $30/hr, so overtime pays $45/hr. The premium is $15/hr (the extra half). Work 10 overtime hours and your premium is 10 × $30 × 0.5 = $150. That $150 — not the full $450 of overtime pay — is what can count toward the deduction.

The caps

Income phase-out

The deduction is reduced once your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) passes $150,000 (single) or $300,000 (joint), and phases out completely at higher incomes. Overtime Tracker tracks your premium against the full cap — if you are near those income levels, ask a tax professional how much of your deduction phases out.

What this app does

Overtime Tracker stores your overtime dates, hours and rates on this device, computes the premium (hours × rate × 0.5) for every entry, and adds it up against your cap for each tax year from 2025 to 2028. The totals are estimates from your own log — keep your pay stubs as backup, and confirm your final deduction with a tax professional.

Privacy Policy

1. What data the app stores

Overtime Tracker stores only what you type in: your hourly rate, filing status and optional employer name (your setup), your overtime log entries — dates, overtime hours, and the rate for each entry — and any pay stub amounts you choose to enter in the Pay Stub Check to compare against your log. That's it. There is no account and no sign-up.

2. Where it lives

All data lives in your browser's local storage, on your own device only. It never leaves your device. There is no Overtime Tracker server receiving your information.

3. What we never do

4. Your control

You can edit or delete any entry at any time, change your setup whenever you like, and erase everything at once in Setup → Clear All Data. Uninstalling or clearing your browser data also removes it.

5. Tax note

Overtime Tracker is a record-keeping and estimating tool. It is not tax advice, and its totals are estimates based on the information you enter. Tax law — including the overtime deduction under IRC §225 for 2025–2028 — depends on your personal situation. Please consult a tax professional or the IRS about your own taxes.

6. Children

Overtime Tracker is a workplace utility for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
